Growing up in Eastern Wisconsin, I found hunting to be a challenge. This was an area with lots of hunting pressure and therefore, wasn’t the easiest to harvest good whitetail deer, especially on public land.
As time passed, I was able to purchase private ground in my home state of Wisconsin as well as in Western Illinois. I spend a lot of time on both properties – planting food plots and trees, shed hunting and turkey hunting. I also use trail cameras almost year round to get some idea about animal movement. This helps set my expectations for the upcoming season.
It is a passion that fuels my desire for this sport. I’ve hunted in a number of Midwestern states for whitetail deer, including Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois and Wisconsin. Although, I may not have been successful in all states, I was able to take away some learning about each area. I try to incorporate that knowledge and management into my own properties. The greatest piece of information I’ve obtained over the years is about food plots. I believe they’ve afforded me the biggest advantage over the years. The stragegic placement of them in my hunting areas they seem to bring a new meaning to my success.
I’m very blessed from my loving wife Pam, who has supported me in chasing my dreams for over 21 years, has given me the chance to really pursue my outdoor dreams. I’m also have two children. My daughter Ashley; who really doesn’t have the desire to go out in the outdoors and do the things I like to do, but she respects my decision I choose. Than I have my son Tyler; who on the other hand actually seems to have a bigger desire for the outdoors than I ever did at his age. He is my number one hunting partner and he is right out there working the land for food plots, putting up stands for the up and coming season or what ever else needs to be done. He is basically every dad’s dream to have a son who likes to pursue the same passion and desire for the outdoors as I.
